Cost? R75 for a single session and R100 for two to five sessions.
Programme: Five sessions, as follows:-
- 09h00-10h30: excavating your personal story: input and exercises for self-understanding and the meanihng of your life in the context of your historical roots and society, PLUS a framework for the writing of a memoir or autobiography
- 10h30-11h30: writing craft for fiction and non-fiction: words, sentences and paragraphs; story structure; dialogue, characterisation etc.
- 11h30 - 12h45: quiet writing time on your own project or on suggested exericises
- 12h45-13h45: overlunch group time for sharing progress, setting personal writing goals, and networking about writing opportunities.
- 14h30- 16h00: reading and listening to one another's writings; giving and receiving affirming as well as creative critical feedback
- LONGING TO WRITE - a short workshop (9 hours)
- with a group of five or more. Guidelines on overcoming obstacles to meaningful writing, understanding left brain/right brain interaction in creativity; developing the life-style of a writer; finding your writing genre; useful exercises for stimulating inspiration; where to from here: the value and how-to of setting up a companionable writing group.
- MEMOIR-WRITING - a short workshop (9 hours) - with a group of five or more. Input, notes, discussion on the values of writing memoirs, ways of gathering memories and material, helpful key exercises, forebears research resources, duplication and distribution of your completed memoir; where to from here: the value and how-to of setting up an a companionable writing group.(R950)
- THE HERO'S JOURNEY - a seminar (9 hours) - with a group of five or more. Input, discussion and exercises on archetypes and stages likely to be found in a fictional hero's journey story, plus exploring yourself as the hero of your own story. (R950)
- CHARACTERISATION & THE USE OF THE ENNEAGRAM - A seminar (9 hours) - with a group of five or more. Input, notes, exercises and discussions on what motivates people to act the way they do, and how a personality system can aid character understanding (in life-writing) and the crafting of believable characters (in fiction). (R950).
- MENTORING (one-on-one) in journalism, memoir-writing, copy editing or narrative craft. One and a half hours a week at R200 a time. Suggested Duration: 5 - 10 sessions.
